I can still remember my first few weeks on my fitness journey, I was a lone wolf and I had to do everything by myself. Research and pretty much will power is what kept me going. I have learned a lot since I started, and these tips have been helpful with my journey and I hope they will help with yours too. Here are a few tips that you should always keep in mind and do to help you go far and reach your fitness goals.
1. Respect the journey. Don’t set yourself into disappointment.
You have to understand, and keep in mind that it is a journey to reach your goal. Don’t set yourself for disappointment, you have to accept the fact that change will not happen in a week, not even a month and it would be even helpful to set yourself thinking that you won’t reach it in year. It is a long road, respect it, it doesn’t mean that you will not have gains through the road, enjoy the journey and reap the benefits from it.
2. Take pictures of your progress to keep yourself motivated.
Taking pictures have always been a good motivation for me. Since I’ve cut a lot of pounds already, the weighing scale isn’t that much for me anymore as I’m been bouncing up in down on my weight (Loosing body fat and gaining LBM). Seeing noticeable changes through pictures always makes me appreciate all the hard work that I’m putting in. To be honest, I didn’t take pictures when I started out, I wish I did I’m sure it will be even more motivating to see how far my progress is now.
3. Buy fitness equipment, start of and motivate yourself.
If you’ve read my article about starting my fitness journey, you’ll see that my first few steps was starting off with my own equipment. I had a jump rope that I started learning at home, after that I actually bought a few dumbbell plates and handles, yoga matt and I started learning basic lifts using them. Buying all throughout the whole journey also helps you keep doing what you’re doing. I just bought a mouth guard the other day and it helped motivating me not to miss my boxing session yesterday even though I didn’t get to use it.
4. Consider buying and taking workout supplements, don’t miss gains
I’m not really a fan of taking supplements when I started out. I can still remember that I was only taking 2 farburners every time that I was going to the gym, I know now that it wasn’t supposed to be used like that (I believe you should be consuming it before meals). When I started taking weight training seriously, I felt like I was missing out on some gains (not to mention loosing muscle) that I could benefit from heavy lifting. That’s when I started taking BCAA’s pre and post work outs. Eventually I felt like I would benefit more taking protein shakes post work out to maximize my muscle restoration and eventually growth. Everything helped me, especially when retaining muscle mass while cutting.
5. Consider being on a target specific diet. Key to success.
There are a lot of different diets that you could indulge into depending on what you need, I suggest that you should highly consider being on one and be dedicated on it starting your fitness journey. Truth be told, that weight training is only the tip of the iceberg towards our fitness goal, diet is the key for success and being disciplined with our diet is very critical.
6. Make research a habit. Always be a student.
This is the most important part of your journey. We all have to continuously learn not only will it help us to keep on current fitness trends, it will help us learn more about proper techniques, new lifting regimens and motivations that we will surely need in the long road ahead.
